"Istorya" is a Masbateno word that means to talk or share a conversation. I picked that name because that is really what I wanted this project to be. Just a simple place where students can talk to someone new without making it feel like a big thing.
The idea was inspired by random chat sites like Omegle, but I wanted this one to feel more student-centered. Instead of just being random for the sake of being random, Istorya is built around conversations between students, especially people from different colleges and departments.
I made this for students who are curious, shy, bored, stressed, or just in the mood for a random convo. Sometimes it is easier to talk when there is less pressure, and that is the kind of space I wanted Istorya to give.
It is still a small project, but I am really happy people are trying it. Big thanks to Camille too for designing the logo and helping give the site its own look.
About Me
I am a 3rd year Computer Science student at Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology. I like building websites, learning new tech, and turning random ideas into something people can actually use.
Istorya is also one of the projects that pushed me to learn more about web development, realtime chat, privacy, and how to make something feel simple on the front while doing a lot in the background. If you have questions, suggestions, or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out to me at facebook.com/ke1th.dev.
Why Communication Matters
I know college life can get stressful. But did you know that simply chatting with someone new is scientifically proven to help? The World Health Organization (2025) highlights that social connection is a fundamental human need that builds mental resilience.
Additionally, recent studies on university students show that building friendships outside of your usual academic bubble significantly lowers academic anxiety and boosts overall well-being (Li et al., 2025). Whether you're navigating complex projects in your major or just trying to get through midterms, reaching out and talking to someone from a different department can open your mind, build your confidence, and completely turn your day around.
Just a Heads Up!
Istorya is a personal project that I made on my own, so it is not officially connected to or sponsored by my school. It is still something I am building bit by bit. If matching feels slow sometimes, that usually just means there are not many people online yet. If you want better and faster chats, tell your friends to hop on too. The more students here, the better the whole thing gets.
