Getting started with Vent

How to post a vent, choose replies and duration, follow a thread, and keep access to your posts with a recovery code.

You can start by reading

I’ve added Vent alongside Istorya’s private and public chats. It is a place for posts and replies, so you don’t need to wait for a live match. You can read what other students have shared before deciding whether to post anything yourself.

The feed has Latest, Most Replies, and Most Relatable views. Those choices give you different ways to browse. More posts load as you scroll, and opening a thread then going back should return you to the place you left in the list.

Give your post a little context

Choose Post a Vent to write something. On mobile, it is in the plus menu with My Vents. You’ll need to choose a flair before posting. A flair tells readers a little about the topic without making you explain everything in the first sentence.

You don’t have to write a long post. A short thought is fine. Read it once before sending and remove names or details that could identify you or somebody else. Vent doesn’t display your real name, but the content of a post can still give things away.

Decide how long it stays

The post form offers 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or until you delete it. This controls how long the vent stays in the public feed. It is not a promise that every copy of the text disappears at that exact moment.

Vents and their replies are stored on Istorya’s server. If you want to remove your own vent, use its delete option in My Vents. The confirmation explains that the post and its replies will be removed and that the action cannot be undone.

Replies are your choice

Allow replies is a toggle in the post form. Leave it on if you want people to respond. Turn it off before posting if you just want to put your thoughts into words without comments.

When replies are allowed, people can respond to the post and reply to other comments in a thread. Connecting lines help show which replies belong together. Your own replies have a “You” label so you can recognize them without searching through the conversation.

Find your posts and new replies

My Vents brings your posts together. Unread reply badges help you notice new responses. On mobile, the plus button can show that there is something new to check, and the menu gives you a way into My Vents.

A reply badge is an invitation to look, not an obligation to answer. You can take your time. If you respond, keep the conversation respectful and avoid asking someone to share more than they seem comfortable saying.

Save your recovery code

This is the part worth doing before you need it. Save your Vent recovery code privately so you have a way to regain access to your posts after changing browsers or losing local access. Guest access does not give you a normal account password to fall back on.

Don’t share that code with someone offering to help manage a post. It is an access key. Also save it before clearing browser data or moving into an installed app, where the browser’s existing access may not carry over.

You can use a thread’s link to share it, and its three dot menu to copy text or report harmful content. Read, post, or reply at your own pace. If all you want today is to see that someone else has had a similar day, reading is enough.
